• The Tampa Bay Rays swept the Detroit Tigers.

• The Chicago Cubs are 7-1 in their last eight games, including a recent four-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers.

• The Blackhawks hired Scotty Bowman as a Senior Advisor.

• Joshua Clottey won a share of the world welterweight title with a close win over Zab Judah.


• Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith received a two-game suspension for punching teammate Ken Lucas during practice. The suspension sent a message that even the top players have to be held accountable for their actions.

• Wide receiver Chris Henry, currently a free agent, was suspended for the first four NFL games this season. Once again, Henry violated league policy.

• Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard was accused of drag racing. Again, it comes down to decision-making.

• Jessica Hardy was taken off the U. S. Olympic swim team after her failed drug test.
