I recently took a journey down to the Broken Egg, and I was thinking about several frontcourt players that will have sensational breakout years.

Let's start at Texas. I don't think Damion James gets nearly enough credit or publicity he deserves. Look for a big season for the explosive 6-7 James. He is a guy who will be unbelievable in transition, bringing a smile to the face of coach Rick Barnes.

Down at Tennessee, Tyler Smith was solid on the baseline after coming from Iowa. Now that the Vols lost Chris Lofton, JaJuan Smith and Ramar Smith are gone, Tyler Smith will be called upon to score even more. He already is a force on the glass and on the defensive end. I feel he will go to another level.

When Kentucky's Patrick Patterson is healthy, he is one of the best young players in bluegrass country in a number of years. He demonstrated a world of potential before getting hurt last season. When he gets back into the flow, I look for him to dominate in the low post. His scoring ability and variety of moves will make him so effective for Billy Gillispie and the Wildcats.

At Oklahoma, I know the fans are getting excited about the pigskin. Let me tell you that Blake Griffin, in his second season for the Sooners, will be one of the premier Big 12 players. He is a fierce competitor and Jeff Capel's young guy got familiar with the collegiate game. This should be Griffin's breakout season.

Out West, Washington's Jon Brockman put up solid numbers last season. Lorenzo Romar's guy should get more recognition while leading a resurgence for the Huskies.

There you have it, five frontcourt players to keep an eye on to enjoy breakthrough campaigns in 2008-09.
