PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ben Woodside, North Dakota State
Nice to see a player score 91 points in a two-game span! The 5-11 senior guard had the performance of the season to date in a triple-overtime loss to Stephen F. Austin. He set school and Summit League records with 60 points, 30 free throws made, and 35 free-throw attempts. His 30 free throws tied the NCAA single-game record set by LSU's Pete Maravich in December 1969 against Oregon State. It was the highest point total in Division I, passing Davidson star Stephen Curry's 44, accomplished against North Carolina State and Oklahoma. Woodside also had eight rebounds and eight assists in the defeat. The next night, he put up 31 points and tied a career high with 10 assists to lead North Dakota State to a 98-77 victory over Georgia Southern in the third-place game of the Drake Hy-Vee Classic.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Temple
The Owls came into Saturday's game against Tennessee with a 4-3 record. They left with a stunning upset over a top 10 opponent Tennessee, 88-72 behind 35 points from Dionte Christmas. It marked the first time all season that Fran Dunphy's squad cracked the 80-point mark.
COACH OF THE WEEK: John Thompson III, Georgetown
His Hoyas escaped the Verizon Center with an overtime win over John Calipari's Memphis Tigers Saturday, 79-70. The Hoyas blew out Savannah State earlier in the week, 100-38 (that same Savannah State squad took Michigan to overtime earlier in the season).
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Courtney Fortson, Arkansas
The 5-11 guard from Montgomery, Alabama had a triple-double in a win over North Carolina Central. He had 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds (impressive for a player under six-feet tall) in 31 minutes.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK: Morgan State over DePaul
Todd Bozeman's Bears entered Allstate Arena with a 3-6 record. The Blue Demons came out with a loss, 79-75 at home. After opening the season 4-0, DePaul has slipped and this was a real stunner, baby!
