Boldin has chance to repair image
With Super Bowl week upon us, there are a lot of interesting storylines.
Can Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt score a victory over his former employer? Will Larry Fitzgerald, who shined as an All-American receiver at the University of Pittsburgh, put up big numbers again?
Then there is the story of Anquan Boldin.
My friends, I don't know Boldin. I can tell you that what happened in the NFC Championship game has me shaking my head.
What happened was out of line. It is one thing to be upset in the heat of battle, especially being pulled out of a game. His shouting match with assistant coach Todd Haley was played over and over on TV.
Will it have a lingering affect in the game? It might because he will be asked about it over and over this week.
He is probably such a fierce competitor who wanted the ball to make a play. He wanted to do something in a positive way and he acted in a negative one. You can't do that and it was bush when he left early and did not take place in the celebration.
Here is a franchise that has gone through a lot over the years. Instead of being part of a great time, beating Atlanta, Carolina and Philadelphia in a row, Boldin walked away from his teammates. I thought that was bush league, baby!
He showed immaturity. It was time for run spot run and he needed to step up and be a man. I figure this has all been resolved, but it still bothers me that he acted in such an irresponsible manner.
Too many guys have been spoiled. They have been given everything they want, they have gotten away with things and then they go into the real world. I don't care how much cash guys have, they have to live from 30-80 in this day and age. You have to get along with people, make positive decisions and have good self esteem.
It isn't about the dollars. You can only have three meals a day, drive that one car, and if you don't have self esteem after you retire you are in trouble. Look at guys like Magic Johnson, David Robinson, Archie Manning, guys who have done the right thing.
It is time to grow up, Mr. Boldin. You are on the biggest stage in pro sports, so here is your chance.
