Chauncey Billups hit 8-of-9 three-pointers and scored 36 points as the Nuggets blew out the Hornets in Game 1 of their series.

Derrick Rose tied an NBA record for points in a playoff debut, putting up 36 big ones as the Bulls stunned the defending-champion Celtics.

Gary Sheffield joined the 500-home run club.

Orlando Hudson, Ian Kinsler and Jason Kubel all hit for the cycle in the same week. Kinsler went 6-for-6 in a win over Baltimore. Hudson was the first Dodger to hit for the cycle since 1970.

Gymnast Shawn Johnson won the Sullivan Award.

The Celtics lost at home in game one of the playoffs, falling to the young Chicago Bulls.

Orlando blew a big lead and was upset by the 76ers in game one of their series.

The Yankees gave up a franchise-record 14 runs in one inning in a loss to the Indians.

The Washington Capitals lost two straight home playoff games to the Rangers.
