It was a one of the most important moves of this offseason.

Down at Louisville, the decision to bring in Holy Cross coach Ralph Willard was a masterful stroke by Rick Pitino. Willard brings a wealth of winning experience to the table. Joining his buddy Pitino's staff makes a lot of sense as these two will work well together.

Willard was part of a great staff at Kentucky that also included Billy Donovan, Tubby Smith and Herb Sendek.

When you look at the incredible job Willard has done at Holy Cross, you have to be impressed.

Willard served as the Crusaders' head coach for the last decade, posting an overall record of 192-117 and a 95-33 mark in Patriot League play. He led the Crusaders to four Patriot League tournament titles and four trips to the NCAA tournament (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2007). Willard also guided Holy Cross to four Patriot League regular season championships.

Willard is a big-time winner. Sitting next to Pitino, a future Hall of Famer for sure, gives an incredible tandem of basketball knowledge.

Willard is a quality guy. He will be great in practice, in assisting in scouting reports and helping with in-game adjustments.

Pitino and the Cardinals made a phenomenal move getting Willard to join the Louisville staff.
