During the course of the basketball season, going to many of the top basketball facilities, I run across the premier NBA scouts. They are visiting on a regular basis, doing their job, evaluating and analyzing athletes to find the stars at the next level.

Let me tell you, one of my favorite guys that I enjoyed sharing a word with was Mel Daniels of the Indiana Pacers. The former superstar with the ABA and NBA team was the Director of Player Personnel with the Pacers. I was stunned to learn he was recently let go.

Give me a break.

Talk about loyalty and dedication. He showed a passion and love for the franchise. That was Daniels, as he represented the team with such class in everything he did.

Now he is sent to the sideline.

It breaks my heart to see that happen. He has battled some health issues along the way as well. He was dedicated as possible to the Pacers program.

I couldn't agree more with a recent column from Hall of Famer Peter Vecsey. He said that Daniels was so valuable to that organization. Yet, he was let go.

Daniels was a classy individual and it was a major mistake to send him to the sideline. If all the guys wearing the uniform would play with the same kind of pride that Daniels did doing his job, there would be a lot more success in Indianapolis.
