Each week I talk about the world of sports:

• I finally believe Notre Dame hit a grand slam with Brian Kelly as its coach. He has the Lou Holtz and Ara Parseghian Golden Dome spirit! I enjoyed South Bend on Saturday as the Irish beat Purdue. I was simply a fan as this was not hoops; I was just a dad enjoying a football weekend with my family. A football weekend at ND is a real happening and I will go to the first three home games with family& friends! It is the best show in the USA!

• What a great performance on the final drive by Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore. The Broncos got past Virginia Tech on Monday night in a battle of top 10 squads. Let's face reality; if Boise St loses it has zero shot for a national title. Talk about pressure and coming through in the clutch, baby!

• If Manny can be Manny, the White Sox will have a chance to catch the Twins! Give GM Kenny Williams credit for taking a shot with Ramirez. Adding his bat to the lineup could provide a spark. The problem is, he often wears out his welcome.

• There has been a lot of talk about the NL MVP race. Albert Pujols is a superstar, but the award will go to Joey Votto because of the Reds' success.

• Thank goodness the NFL pre-season games are over. They are the biggest rip-off in sports! I hope the league goes to an 18-game regular season, giving fans more contests with relevance. I am happy that the real season starts this coming weekend, baby!

• Coach K has the young USA stars playing with pride. I look for the USA to win the gold medal at the World Championship for the first time since '94.

• A little tidbit for fans of Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg. Braves pitcher Tim Hudson has had a great year and he had Tommy John surgery.

• The Padres slide is unreal wow, they lost 10 in a row going into Labor Day! Will they blow their chance to be in the playoffs?

• Hard to believe that only 11 thousand fans came out last week to see the Tampa Bay Rays play at the Trop vs. the Blue Jays. My friends, that is sad support for a winning club! The Rays and Yankees battling for first in the AL East and people didn't come out to root on their team in Florida!
