Duke showed why it is number one with a big win over Kansas State in the finals of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic in Kansas City. Syracuse moved up after gutting out wins over Michigan and Georgia Tech down in Atlantic City. The Big East saw two teams on the rise after winning tournament championships -- Connecticut upset Michigan State and Kentucky en route to the title in Maui. Notre Dame beat Wisconsin in the finals of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando. Tennessee upset Villanova to win the NIT Preseason Tip-off at Madison Square Garden.
