DEJA VU IN ROCKETS' WIN OVER BULLS

The Rockets extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 110-97 win over the Bulls. Chicago hadn't faced a team on a double-digit winning streak since 1991, when Houston won its 12th in a row by defeating the Bulls at Chicago Stadium despite 34 points by Michael Jordan.

GINOBILI'S LAST 5 GAMES

Manu Ginobili scored 35 points, shooting 10 for 18 from the floor, in the Spurs' 98-89 victory over the Hornets, as San Antonio pulled even with New Orleans at 37-17. Get a load of how well Ginobili has been playing:

Ginobili, over his last five games, has now scored 172 points, while making 55 of 86 field-goal attempts (64 percent). Only one NBA player since the year 2000 has scored as many points with as high a shooting percentage over any five-game span; that was Shaquille O'Neal, who with the Lakers in March 2002, had a five-game stretch in which he scored 177 points while shooting 69.5 percent from the floor. That's it.

By the way, prior to Shaq, you have to go back to 1996 to find the last such instance of a player scoring and shooting as well as Ginobili over a period of five games. (Hakeem Olajuwon had 172 points and a 65-percent shooting stretch over a five-game span late in the 1995-96 season.)

HOPE FOR HUCKABEE?

This is the year of the big comeback at least in the NBA, that is. Saturday night, it was the Bucks who overcame a 23-point deficit to defeat the Nuggets, 115-109; earlier this month,, the Warriors overcame an identical deficit to down the Wizards, 120-117. And earlier this season, the Nuggets, 76ers and Mavericks won games in which they had trailed by 25, 25 and 24 points, respectively.

With the season only two-thirds complete, there have already been 13 games in which the winning team overcame a deficit of at least 20 points one more such game than there were all last season in the NBA, and as many as there were in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons combined. You have to go back to the 2000-01 campaign to find the last season in which as many NBA games have been won by teams overcoming deficits of 20-or-more points; there were 16 such games in 2000-01.

Denver Nuggets

LAKERS ARE NUMBER ONE IN THE WEST

With the Lakers' easy win over the Clippers they have vaulted into the top spot in the Western Conference standings. It's the first time since April 3, 2004, that the Lakers have held the top spot this late in a season.

Los Angeles Lakers

HEAT'S 26TH LOSS IN 27 GAMES

The Heat has a record of 1-26 since Christmas Day. In the last 10 seasons (starting with 1998-99), only one other NBA team has lost 26 games within a 27-game single-season span: the Hawks did that late in the 2004-05 season, actually losing 27 of 28 in Mike Woodson's rookie season as head coach.

Miami Heat

MARION: 4 POINTS

Shawn Marion scored only four points in 39 minutes, 45 seconds on the court in the Heat's overtime loss to the 76ers. It was the 343rd game of his NBA career in which Marion logged that much playing time, but the first of those 343 games in which he scored fewer than seven points.
