A GOOD SHOOTING NIGHT FOR ALLEN

Ray Allen made 8 of 10 field goals on Monday, tying his third-highest shooting percentage in any NBA game (minimum: 8 field goals). Allen had a 13 for 15 (.867) game in 1999 and a 10 for 12 (.833) in 2001 as well as two other games in which he shot exactly 80 percent.

BULLS WIN A CLOSE ONE

The Bulls pulled out a close one against the Wizards on Monday, winning 101-99. Entering the day Chicago had been 2-7 (.222) in "one-basket games"--those decided by three or fewer points. The only teams with a worse record in those games starting Monday's action were the Kings (2-11, .154) and Knicks (1-4, .200).

ANOTHER LOSING SEASON FOR THE KNICKS

The Knicks' loss on Monday dropped them to 28-42, assuring them of an eighth consecutive season with more losses than wins. That ties the longest streak of losing seasons in team history, done previously from 1959-60 through 1966-67. The last NBA team with that many successive losing seasons was the Hawks from 1999-2000 through 2007-08.

WADE BREAKS OWN RECORD

Dwyane Wade broke his own team record for most points in one season in Miami's game on Monday. He's one of three players who is his current team's single-season points leader, along with LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.

A LONG WAIT FOR A 30-POINT GAME

Ronald Murray scored 30 points on Monday, his second-most in any NBA game and his most since scoring a career-high 31 on November 18, 2003, while with Seattle. Only four other active players have gone five years between 30-point games: Marcus Camby (1997-2005), Joe Smith (1999-2006), Dikembe Mutombo (1992-97) and Brent Barry (1996-2001).

THEY MIGHT WANT TO STOP HACKING SHAQ

Shaquille O'Neal was 7 for 8 (.875) from the free throw line on Monday. It's the third time in calendar year 2009 that Shaq has shot that well from the line in a game (minimum 7 free throws). Before this year, he hadn't had such a game since March 26, 2003.

THREE 76ERS SCORE 25+

Andre Miller had 27 points and Thaddeus Young and Andre Iguodala each had 25 for the 76ers on Monday. Over the last 10 years there's been only one other game in which three 76ers players scored 25 or more points: Miller, Joe Smith and Willie Green did it in April 2007.

IWAKUMA COMES OUT FIRING

Hasashi Iwakuma retired Korea's first 11 batters on Monday, tying a WBC record for batters retired to start a game. In fact, there have been only three other games in which a pitcher was perfect through three innings and one of the other cases was also by Iwakuma against Korea, on March 9, when he set down the first nine batters. The other two cases were by Norge Vera for Cuba this year (11 straight) and Jason Grilli for Italy in 2006 (10 straight).

DARVISH CHANNELS DR. K

Yu Darvish had 20 strikeouts in 13 innings in this year's WBC, setting a record for strikeouts in one WBC. The previous record, 16, was set by Japan's Koji Uehara in 17 innings in 2006.

JAPAN'S KEY TO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Japan has played 17 WBC games (eight in 2006, nine in 2009) and has allowed four or fewer runs in 16 of those 17 games. (Japan's 10-6 victory over Cuba in the 2006 championship game was the only occasion on which its pitchers allowed more than four runs in a game.)

CAMMALERRI AMONG THE BEST OFFSEASON ACQUISITIONS

Gagne

GAGNE IS BRODEUR'S KRYPTONITE

Simon Gagne had a goal and two assists in the Flyers' 4-2 win over Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils. It was Gagne's 17th career goal against Brodeur (in 41 games), tying him with Jaromir Jagr for the highest total by any player.

Gagne's 17 goals versus Brodeur are six more than he's scored off any other goaltender. His next-highest total is 11 goals against Marc-Andre Fleury.

Philadelphia Flyers

FLYERS EFFECTIVE ON THE POWER PLAY

The Flyers scored three power-play goals against the Devils on Monday. It was the first time that the Flyers scored three or more power play goals in one game against New Jersey in almost 17 years. Rod Brind'Amour, Kevin Dineen and Mike Ricci each scored a goal with a man advantage in a 5-4 Flyers win over the Devils on March 29, 1992. Monday was the 93rd game between those teams since that date.
