ROSE BLOOMS EARLY FOR THE BULLS
From Elias: Derrick Rose scored 30 points for Chicago - all before the fourth quarter began - to power the Bulls to a 114-81 win over the Hawks on Tuesday. It was the second time this season that Rose accumulated at least 30 points in one game by the end of the third quarter. He also did it in the Bulls' home opener against Detroit on October 30. He's the first Bulls player with two such games in one season since Elton Brand in 1999-2000.
LUNDQVIST REACHES 10 SHUTOUTS FOR SECOND TIME
From Elias: Henrik Lundqvist posted his league-high 10th shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory against Florida on Tuesday. It's the second time that Lundqvist has reached double-figures in shutouts in a season; he also had 10 clean sheets in 2007-08. The only other goaltender in Rangers history with 10 or more shutouts in two different seasons is Lorne Chabot, who did it in the team's first two seasons in the NHL: 1926-27 (10) and 1927-28 (11). The only other active NHL goaltender with more than one season of 10-plus shutouts is Martin Brodeur with four.
TIM THOMAS BEATS THE DEVILS FOR THIRD TIME THIS SEASON
From Elias: Tim Thomas, who made 30 saves in his 4-1 win over the Devils in Boston, has won all three games he's played against New Jersey this season, allowing only two goals in the process. Thomas is only the second Bruins goaltender to post three wins versus the Devils in one season, joining Blaine Lacher, who went 3-1-0 against them in 1994-95.
JACQUES LEMAIRE'S 500TH GAME AS DEVILS COACH
From Elias: New Jersey's loss at Boston on Tuesday was Jacques Lemaire's 500th regular-season game as head coach of the Devils, covering three separate stints (378 games from 1993-94 through 1997-98, 82 games in 2009-10, and 40 games since Dec. 23 this season). Lemaire, who also coached 656 games over eight seasons for the Minnesota Wild, is only the second man in NHL history to serve as head coach for at least 500 games with each of two different teams. The first was Lemaire's coach for the last eight seasons of his playing career, Scotty Bowman. Bowman served 634 games behind the bench for the Canadiens, and later 701 games with the Red Wings.
CHAD LAROSE USES THE SAME SCRIPT IN HIS TWO-GOAL GAMES
From Elias: Chad LaRose had two shots on goal and scored on both of them to lead the Hurricanes to a 4-3 home-ice win over the Senators. It was déjà vu for LaRose, whose only previous two-goal game this season came in Ottawa's other trip to Raleigh this season (November 17), a game in which Chad also had only two shots on goal.
SECOND STRAIGHT THREE-POINT GAME FOR MIKE KNUBLE
From Elias: Mike Knuble scored one goal and assisted on two others for the Capitals in their shootout win at Philadelphia. It was the second straight three-point game for the former Flyer, who tallied two goals and one assist in Washington's win at New Jersey on Friday. It's the first time that Knuble had recorded consecutive three-point games in his 14-season NHL career. He's also the first Caps player to score at least three points in consecutive team games this season.
TORONTO ROOKIE POSTS HIS THIRD SHUTOUT
From Elias: James Reimer, who made his NHL debut just over three months ago (December 20), recorded his third NHL shutout with a 3-0 win at Minnesota on Tuesday. Reimer's three shutouts are the most in one season by a Maple Leafs rookie since Mike Palmateer had four in 1976-77.
GERBE'S TWO GOALS ARE ALL THE SABRES NEED
From Elias: Nathan Gerbe scored both goals in the Sabres' 2-0 win at Montreal. He's the first Buffalo player to record a multiple-goal game while scoring every goal in a shutout victory since Thomas Vanek single-handedly accounted for all the goals in the Sabres' 3-0 win at Boston on April 5, 2008.
MILAN JURCINA'S SECOND TWO-ASSIST GAME
From Elias: Defenseman Milan Jurcina assisted on two goals for the Islanders in their 5-2 win over the Lightning in Tampa. It was only the second two-assist game for Jurcina in his six seasons in the NHL. Jurcina's other multi-assist game was on Dec. 4, 2008 in Washington, and it came against his current team, the Islanders.
LEGWAND STAYS ON THE MARCH WITH TWO POINTS
From Elias: David Legwand continued to have the hot hand for the Predators as he picked up a goal and an assist in Nashville's 3-1 win over the Oilers. Legwand has recorded 12 points in March (four goals and eight assists in 11 games), his highest total in any calendar month since January 2007, when he set a career high with 17 points (seven goals and ten assists in 13 games).
TWO GOALS FOR UMBERGER ARE NO GUARANTEE OF VICTORY
From Elias: R.J. Umberger, who entered play on Tuesday with only two goals in his last 20 games, scored two goals for the Blue Jackets in their shootout loss to the Avalanche. Umberger has 19 multiple-goal games in his NHL career but only nine of them have come in games his team won, including only five of his 12 multi-goal games for Columbus.
