RONDO THE HELPER
From Elias: Rajon Rondo handed out 20 assists in the Celtics' win over the Raptors, the sixth time in his career he has had at least 20 assists in a regular-season game. All other players in Celtics history combined for only five 20-assist games: Bob Cousy (2), Sherman Douglas (2) and Nate "Tiny" Archibald (1).
BUCKS BACKCOURT LEADS THE WAY
From Elias: Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings each scored 22 points and handed out nine assists in the Bucks' victory over the Hornets. It's only the fourth time in Bucks history that they had two players with at least 22 points and nine assists in the same game. It also happened in 1973 (Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), 1976 (Brian Winters and Gary Brokaw) and 2003 (Gary Payton and Sam Cassell).
JEFFERSON IS PLAYING THE JAZZ
From Elias: Al Jefferson has 128 rebounds in 11 games for the Jazz. In the post-Karl Malone era, only one Utah player had that many rebounds in his first 11 games of a season: Carlos Boozer did it twice (139 in 2006-2007 and 129 in 2008-2009).
EIGHT IS ENOUGH
From Elias: The Wizards and the Pistons both started the season 0-8. It's the sixth time in NBA history that two teams started a season 0-8 or worse, the first since 2005-2006 when the Hawks (0-9) and Raptors (0-9) did it.
O.J. SUPPLYING SOME OFFENSIVE JUICE
From Elias: O.J. Mayo scored 19 points in the Mavericks' win over the Cavaliers. Mayo has scored at least 18 points in each of his last nine games. Over the last 11 seasons (since 2002-2003) only one other Mavericks player not named Nowitzki had a streak like that: Jason Terry scored at least 18 points in 15 straight games in 2008-2009.
GRIZZLIES ARE 8-1
From Elias: The Grizzlies improved their record to 8-1 with their victory over the Bobcats. Memphis finished last season by winning 16 of its last 20 games. Only one team has a better record than the Grizzlies (24-5) since March 25 of last season: San Antonio (25-4).
GAY AND RANDOLPH ARE A DYNAMIC DUO
From Elias: Both Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph have scored at least 15 points in all nine games for Memphis this season. Only twice before have the Grizzlies had a player accomplish that: Rudy Gay in 2010-2011 (first 10 games) and Shareef Abdur-Rahim in 1999-2000 (first 12 games). Over the past six seasons (since 2007-2008), only one other pair of teammates each scored at least 15 points in each of their teams' first eight-or-more games of a season: Kevin Durant (first 11) and Russell Westbrook (first 14) for Oklahoma City in 2010-2011.
BOSH BREAKS OUT
From Elias: Chris Bosh led all players, outright, in points (24) and rebounds (9) in Miami's win over Phoenix. It was only the third time in 145 regular-season games with the Heat, that Bosh was the game's outright leader in points and rebounds. Bosh also did it on March 14, 2011 against San Antonio (30 points, 12 rebounds) and on New Year's Day in 2012 against Charlotte (24 points, 10 rebounds).
In 509 games with the Raptors, Bosh was the game's outright leader in points and rebounds 42 times (8.3%).
CLIPPERS SCORING AT A HIGH RATE
From Elias: The Clippers have scored 923 points in nine games this season. That's the most points scored over the team's first nine games of a season since 1992-1993 (978).
