Noah has a prolific night
From Elias: Joakim Noah did it all for the Bulls in their victory over the Pistons on Friday night. Noah had 30 points, 23 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocked shots in Chicago's win. Only one other player has reached those levels in those five categories in the same game: Golden State's Joe Barry Carroll, and it took him four overtimes to do it. On February 1, 1987, Carroll registered 43 points, 24 rebounds, six assists, three steals and four blocks against the Nets. (The NBA began recording steals and blocks in 1973.)
Popovich has Spurs off to another fast start
From Elias: The Spurs defeated the Rockets by a score of 114-92 to run their record to 16-4 on Friday night. This is the sixth time that Gregg Popovich's squad has won at least 16 of its first 20 games of a season. Only two other head coaches did that as many as six times in their career: Phil Jackson (seven) and Red Auerbach (six).
McGee is perfect in Indiana
From Elias: JaVale McGee scored 20 points and made all nine of his field-goal attempts to help lead the Nuggets to a victory over the Pacers at Indiana on Friday night. McGee is only the second player in the Nuggets' NBA franchise history to make all of his shots from the field on at least nine attempts in a road game. Bobby Jones went 9-for-9 from the field for the Nuggets at Milwaukee on November 6, 1976.
Stevenson does his all of his damage from beyond the arc
From Elias: DeShawn Stevenson's five three-point field goals accounted for all of his 15 points in Atlanta's win over the Wizards on Friday night. Since the NBA instituted the three-point line in 1979, only three other Hawks have scored at least 15 points in a game, all coming on three-point shots: Tyrone Corbin on March 23, 1997 (15 points), Salim Stoudamire on April 6, 2007 (21) and Mike Bibby on February 16, 2011 (15).
Turner torments Celtics again
From Elias: Evan Turner registered 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the 76ers to an overtime win over the Celtics on Friday night. Turner had 25 points and 11 rebounds in Philadelphia's victory over Boston earlier this season (November 9). Over the last 40 seasons, only three other 76ers have posted at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in consecutive games against the Celtics: Julius Erving (1979-80), Moses Malone (1982-83) and Charles Barkley (1988-89).
28 points and no turnovers for Curry
From Elias: Stephen Curry scored 28 points and did not commit a turnover in the Warriors' win over the Nets in Brooklyn on Friday night. It is the second most points Curry has scored in a game in which he did not turn the ball over, behind his 29-point effort on March 15, 2010.
Dalembert makes the most of his limited action
From Elias: Samuel Dalembert came off the bench and registered five blocked shots in just 14 minutes of action in the Bucks' win over the Bobcats on Friday night. There have been 207 other instances in which an individual registered at least five blocked shots in a game for Milwaukee, but Dalembert is the first to do it while playing fewer than 15 minutes.
Jazz win big after a rough first quarter
From Elias: The Jazz overcame a sluggish first quarter and registered a 131-99 victory over the Raptors on Friday night. Utah's 32-point margin of victory tied its second largest in a game in which it trailed at the end of the first quarter. Utah beat Golden State by 39 points after trailing by four points at the conclusion of the first quarter on April 13, 1992 and just two days later registered a 32-point win over Houston despite entering the second quarter with a one point deficit.
Westbrook has a big first half
From Elias: Russell Westbrook scored 27 of his 33 points in the first half in the Thunder's win over the Lakers on Friday night. It is the most points Westbrook has scored in the first half of a game in his career. Prior to Friday, Westbrook never scored more than 20 points in the first half of a game (he has scored 27 points in the second half twice).
Another 30 point/10 rebound game for Love
From Elias: Kevin Love had 36 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves to a win over Cavaliers on Friday night. It marked the 29th time that Love has recorded at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in a game since the start of the 2010-11 season, by far the highest total for any player in the league. No other player has done that more than 20 times over the last three seasons.
