A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:
" Gilbert Arenas, who had scored 20 or more points in each of his previous 10 games, was held to three points in 32 minutes in Washington's 95-80 loss to Memphis. Only one other player in NBA history had a single-season streak of at least 10 games scoring at least 20 points broken by scoring three or fewer points in at least 30 minutes. On March 11, 1981, Bernard King scored two points in 35 minutes for Golden State, after he scored at least 20 points in each of his previous 12 games.
" Dallas won in San Antonio 95-92 after taking a 37-23 lead at the end of the first quarter. That was the Spurs' largest deficit at the end of the first period in a home game in more than seven years. The last time San Antonio was down by at least 14 points through the first 12 minutes in front of its home crowd was April 18, 1999, when Houston took a 31-13 lead. The Spurs rallied to beat the Rockets 86-83.
" Dwyane Wade scored 33 points, distributed 15 assists and pulled down five rebounds in Miami's loss to Orlando. In the past five seasons, only two other players had a 30/15/5 (points/assists/rebounds) game: Baron Davis, who did it eight nights ago against Sacramento, and Allen Iverson, who did it in an overtime game in April 2005. One of Wade's teammates may not be all that impressed. Gary Payton is one of only two active NBA players with two career 30/15/5 games (the other is Jason Kidd).
" LeBron James scored 30 points in Cleveland's loss to the Pacers, and 16 came from the free-throw line. Only one other NBA player scored at least 30 points in a game this season with more than half of the points coming on foul shots: Yao Ming scored 33 points, with 17 from the charity stripe, last Saturday against Detroit.
" The Knicks beat the Celtics 101-77, marking only the second time in the past 36 years that they won a game in Boston by at least 20 points. The other instance was Dec. 18, 1992, in a 113-87 victory. One of New York's starting guards in that game was current Celtics head coach Doc Rivers.
" The Knicks held Paul Pierce to 12 points. Pierce entered the game having scored at least 15 points in each of 91 consecutive games, which had been the second-longest current streak in the league. Allen Iverson extended his streak to 140 games Friday night.
" Iverson scored 46 points in Philadelphia's win against Chicago, although he missed all six of his field-goal attempts from 3-point range. It was the second-most points Iverson has scored in an NBA game without the benefit of a 3-pointer. He scored 53 points without converting from downtown on Dec. 23, 2005, at Atlanta.
" Denver beat Golden State 140-129. There has been only one non-overtime NBA game in the past 14 seasons in which more points were scored: The Clippers beat the Raptors 152-120 on March 13, 1998. (There was one other game during the past 14 seasons with exactly 269 points: The Celtics beat the Hawks 137-132 on April 14, 2004.)
" Carlos Lee, who hit 37 home runs in 2006, signed as a free agent with the Astros on Friday. It's only the third time in franchise history that Houston has acquired a player coming off a season of at least 30 home runs. The Astros traded for Lee May in November 1971, after May hit 39 home runs for the Reds that year, and they signed Jeff Kent as a free agent in December 2002, after Kent hit 37 home runs for the Giants that season.
" Woody Williams also signed with the Astros on Friday, moving into a home field at which he has pitched successfully. Williams has nine career wins at Minute Maid Park, easily the highest total for any visiting pitcher in the seven-year history of that venue. The top three: Williams (9), Matt Morris (6) and Carlos Zambrano (6).6
" Philippe Boucher scored three power-play goals to lead Dallas to a 5-3 win over the Kings. Boucher is the 11th defenseman in NHL history to score three power-play goals in one game and the first Stars backliner to do it. Over the past 12 seasons, the only other defenseman to register a power-play hat trick was the Blue Jackets' Bryan Berard on Jan. 8, 2006, at Phoenix.
" Flyers center Mike Richards ended a 40-game regular-season goal drought when he scored the tie-breaking goal at 2:02 of the third period, giving Philadelphia a 3-2 win over Columbus. Richards did not score in his final 18 games last season, and he was goalless in 22 games this season before Friday. Entering play Friday, Richards had the most ice time (423 minutes) of any NHL forward who had yet to score a goal this season.
" The Maple Leafs beat the Capitals 7-1 in Washington. It was the fourth time Toronto scored six or more goals in a game this season, and all four instances have been in road games. Ottawa is the only other NHL team to score six or more goals in a road game more than twice this season; the Senators have done it three times, including their 6-4 win in Florida on Friday night.
" Ottawa had a streak of 106 minutes, 35 seconds without committing a penalty end in Friday night's game against Florida. That was the longest streak by any NHL team since the Devils went 124:23 without a player being sent to the penalty box, from Nov. 27, 2002, to Dec. 2, 2002.
" Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas was replaced by Philippe Sauve in Friday's game against Carolina. It was the sixth time this season that Boston used two goaltenders in one game this season, tying Phoenix for the league high.
" Larry Coker, who was fired Friday, served as the Miami Hurricanes' head coach since 2001. Beginning with the first NFL draft after Coker's first season, the University of Miami had 42 players selected in the NFL draft, the most for any school over that five-year period (2002-06). Next-most during that span: Ohio State (40) and Georgia (32).
