A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:
" Dwyane Wade had 33 points and 13 assists against the 76ers on Monday after having 35 points and 12 assists on Saturday against the Bobcats and 33 points and 15 assists Friday against the Magic. Only three other players in NBA history have had at least 30 points and a dozen assists in as many as three straight games: Oscar Robertson had four such streaks for the Cincinnati Royals between 1960 and 1964; Nate Archibald for the Kansas City-Omaha Kings in 1972; and Kevin Johnson for the Suns in 1989.
" Mike Holmgren was 75-37 in regular-season play with the Packers and with Monday's win against Green Bay, he's now 70-53 with the Seahawks. He's only the second NFL head coach to have 70 or more regular-season wins with each of two franchises; Don Shula had 71 regular-season wins with the Colts and 257 with the Dolphins.
" Shaun Alexander set a Seahawks record for carries on Monday with 40, and with 201 yards he became the fourth player to run for at least 200 yards on Monday Night Football, joining Bo Jackson (221 in 1987), Ricky Williams (216 in 2002) and Thurman Thomas (214 in 1990).
Alexander had only one previous 200-yard game, a 266-yard performance against the Raiders on Nov. 11, 2001.
" Brett Favre's 48-yard touchdown pass to Donald Driver was the 410th of his career, leaving him 10 behind Dan Marino for the all-time record. And while both Favre and Marino have thrown 360 touchdown passes of less than 40 yards, Favre is 10 behind Marino in the 40-or-more-yards variety, 60-50.
" The Cowboys released Mike Vanderjagt and replaced him with Martin Gramatica. "Automatica" will be the fifth field-goal kicker used by the Cowboys in Bill Parcells' four seasons as head coach, joining Jose Cortez, Billy Cundiff, Shaun Suisham and Vanderjagt. That will tie the most players used on field goals by any NFL team since 2003. Four other teams have also used five: the Colts, Giants, 49ers and Titans.
If Gramatica also handles the kickoffs, he'll be the seventh player to do that job for Parcells' Cowboys. The only teams that have used as many as seven players on kickoffs over the last four seasons are the Colts (8) and Vikings (7).
" On Sunday, for only the second time in the last 20 seasons, a pair of teams coming off a shutout victory met; the Patriots defeated the Bears 17-13 after each team had shut out its previous opponent. We won't have to wait long for the next instance. The Bengals host the Ravens on Thursday night, with each team coming off shutout victories. In the Bengals' case it was extra special: They ended a streak of 269 games without a shutout, the longest streak in NFL history. This will be the first time since 1977 that there were two games of this type in the same season.
" Mike Mussina signed a two-year contract with the Yankees on Monday, giving him at least two more shots at that elusive 20-win season. Mussina has won 239 games, the third-most in major league history among players who never had a 20-win season, behind Dennis Martinez (245) and Frank Tanana (240).
Similarly, Mussina has 92 wins for the Yankees, the third-most in Yankees history among players who never had a 20-win season for the team, behind two old-timers, Ray Caldwell (95, between 1910 and 1918) and Johnny Murphy (93, almost all in relief between 1932-46).
" The Red Wings did it the hard way Monday, winning 2-1 behind shorthanded goals by Kris Draper and Mathieu Schneider. The last time a team won 2-1 on two shorthanded goals was more than 33 years ago, when Orest Kindrachuk and Bill Clement did it for the Flyers in a 2-1 win over the California Golden Seals.
" Denis Savard was hired to replace Trent Yawney as coach of the Blackhawks. Savard scored 1,338 points during a playing career that spanned 17 seasons, starting and ending in Chicago. Only four of the 70 other players to score at least 1,000 points later coached in the NHL: Alex Delvecchio, Phil Esposito, Wayne Gretzky and Bryan Trottier. Savard will join Delvecchio (Red Wings) as the only players to coach the same team for which they scored at least 1,000 points.
" Chivas USA acquired Amado Guevara from the Red Bulls on Monday. Guevara will be reunited with Chivas head coach Bob Bradley, for whom Guevara scored 23 goals with the MetroStars (2003-2005). The only players to score more goals for Bradley are Ante Razov (78), Josh Wolff (32), and Peter Nowak (26).
