Phoenix Phans thought they had it tough on the ice this past season: third-worst record in the West, Mr. 2,857 himself overseeing the league's fifth-most inept offense, extending the playoff drought to Season 6 and counting. Oh, how simple things were back then. Flash-forward to the off-season: The Coyotes are caught in the crossfire between a league defending its right to put franchises where it wants and the efforts of BlackBerry boss Jim Balsillie to move the Coyotes to Hamilton, Ont., and become the seventh NHL franchise in the Great North. If fans caught in the middle feel their hearts are being ripped out, at least their wallets stayed safe during the season, with free parking and programs, the league's third-cheapest tickets and a Coyotes stimulus package for every day of the week: Monday-Wednesday ($10 stubs for students); XTRA Value Thursdays (ticket, burger and beer for $30); Friday to Sunday Family Packs ($79 for four tickets, four sodas, four dogs); and All-You-Can-Eat Saturdays ($25 for ticket plus infinite franks, popcorn, peanuts, nachos and fountain drinks). "Moving the Coyotes out of Phoenix is a knee-jerk reaction," says Luke on Savethecoyotes.com. "Remember a couple of years ago when the Pittsburgh Penguins were a 'failure' who could not survive playing in Pitt? Wow, seems that things sure change quick!" Keep the Phaith, Luke.
