Two Junes removed from the Stanley Cup Finals, the Senators' approval ratings are a mixed bag. Since early 2008, they've gone through three coaches, though they seem to like this one. Cory Clouston was named interim bench boss on Feb. 2, and this year the Coaching mark fell only seven spots. (That almost feels like an improvement.) But following a 24-place overall slide last season, the Sens are out of the top one-third of franchises, and the outlook for a return isn't good. Case in point: A fan posting on SensNation.com gave this glowing assessment of GM Bryan Murray's performance: "Murray has really f'd himself." Translation: Fans are down on high-salaried mainstays like Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley, who has requested a trade. Still, even as attendance at Scotiabank Place has fallen (4.4%), so has the cost for fans (9.8%). The Sens offer the cheapest-per-ounce beer in the league ($4.63 for 14 ounces), and they do their part in the community. A March 3 Sens Foundation Telethon to benefit Roger's House (a comprehensive pediatric respite and palliative care program) raised more than $850,000. Another good give-back for the community? A return to the Finals.
