Remarkably, the Diamondbacks have figured out how to keep their fan base happy despite a lack of success between the lines. This season, as of June 10, they've drawn 855,748 fans through 32 home dates, an average of 26,742 per game, despite a win percentage below .500. That turnstile performance is proof that a $1.50 hot dog or soda and a free T-shirt or soap dispenser often matters more to a family of fans than W's. This season marks the third consecutive year the D-backs have either reduced prices or held steady on the majority of seats at Chase Field. They've also had the lowest ticket prices among MLB teams since 2007; in 2008, their average of $15.96 was nearly $10 below the MLB average of $25.40. So it's really no surprise that the D-backs drew 2,509,924 home fans in 2008, the highest mark since 2004. But life is not all cactus roses in the desert. Just ask 2007 NL Manager of the Year Bob Melvin, who was dumped 29 games into the season. His replacement, A.J. Hinch, who went 1–5 in the first week, is signed through 2012. That lack of accountability -- okay, sense -- has fans scratching their heads. Lil D-Ped put it this way on the Batter's Eye, an online forum: "i wonder what makes them trust him so much." Us too, Lil D.
