We wouldn't blame Jags fans if they wanted to forget about the past 12 months. After all, coming off a hugely successful 2007 campaign that earned a franchise-best ranking (No. 9 overall), Jacksonville's unexpectedly disastrous 2008 season was nothing if not forgettable. On the surface, it's easy to pinpoint the inversion of the win-loss record, from a playoff-bound 11–5 to an AFC South cellar-bound 5–11, as the source of the free fall. A deeper look, however, reveals that the team tumbled in every category. And at the core, the blame belongs to players who disappointed on the field (David Garrard went from an interception-proof three in 2007 to pick-prone 13 in 2008) and off (wideout Matt Jones ruined his breakout season by violating the substance-abuse policy and his probation). Cheap tix (third lowest in the NFL, at $55.30) and the decision to keep beer, water, soda and hot dog prices flat next year only serve as a reminder of better times, when it was the players who were the real deal.
