Cam Newton flies to No. 1

12/7/2010

He beat Alabama. He propelled his team to No. 1 in the BCS standings. And he pretty much has the Heisman on lock. Yes, it's good to be Cameron Newton. So good, in fact, that we couldn't resist giving him the top spot in our rankings despite some stiff competition from a college hoopster who basically ran the Maui Invitational (UConn's Kemba Walker) and a Premier League player who was a goal shy of the elusive double hat trick (Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov).

In a week in which tons of players went off, what do you make of our rankings? Did the panel miss someone, or just place a certain athlete way too high? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Our all-star ESPN panel: John Buccigross, Josh Elliott, Robert Flores, DJ Gallo, Jemele Hill, Dana Jacobson, Brian Kenny, Jeff MacGregor, Bram Weinstein and Trey Wingo.
