BUT WHAT ABOUT A TRADITIONAL, PRINTED PROGRAM GUIDE?
ESPN doesn't publish a printed guide, but we do send all of our listings to our cable affiliates and various listing outlets, including the Sunday newspaper TV supplements, daily newspapers, local cable guides, etc.

Information and scheduling for ESPN's various pay packages (i.e. ESPN FULL COURT, ESPN GamePlan, etc.) can be found at www.espnppv.com.

ESPN, Inc. doesn't release or sell copies of its programming or promos. We generally only have telecast rights to programs on our networks and not tape-distribution rights.

ESPN's policy does not allow us to accept for review or consideration any ideas, suggestions, or creative materials not solicited by us or our subsidiaries.

Hey, it's a rare occasion when we want to watch anything else except sports on ESPN or ABC either! But we've got these things called contracts that obligate us to black out areas (determined by teams, leagues or conferences) in order to protect local and regional television commitments, and/or to protect ticket sales. So we've got to play by the rules and, if our contract calls for us to black out, show something else (generally, ESPNEWS) in your area when a local team plays in a nationally televised game, when they are playing either home or away.

ESPNU is a basic cable network and is available to any cable system or satellite provider that would like to offer the service to its subscribers. It is, however, the system's decision as to whether or not the network is offered. You should check with your provider to find out what their plans are to add new services, including ESPNU, to their lineup. We continue to negotiate with all our affiliates for the carriage of ESPNU. To find out with provider offers ESPNU in your area, click here and enter your Zip code into the "Get ESPNU on TV" search box.
ESPNU is available nationally through DIRECTV and DISH Network.

It doesn't stand for anything!, but since you asked, the story is this...When ESPN started in 1979 we were the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (thus, ESPN). However, that name took too long to paint across our chests on game day, so we dropped it in 1985 and adopted a new corporate name -- ESPN, Inc.-- and a new logo. And by the way, we're a subsidiary of ABC, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Co. Also, the Hearst Corporation has a 20% interest in ESPN.

Our customer service area is not staffed to research and answer trivia questions. If you have Mobile ESPN, we suggest you send your question over to the Answer Guy. Or, you may also try contacting the specific team, conference, league, etc. to obtain information on the subject of interest.
