VIEWERS' OPINIONS
"It is ironic that the day after Ruffian's trainer passes, there was a tragic ending in the Kentucky Derby with the great filly Eight Belles. The amount of time, money, spent in this sport, it is an absolute tragedy any horse goes down, but it IS part of the sport. PETA is way off, horse racing has reacted in California with mixed results with new surfaces. However, on your show, it was said the horses are running faster. I remind you Secretariats' Belmont is still the world record on dirt. Also, horses in the past started many more races. Big Brown won the Derby in just his fourth start. He will NEVER start 21 races as Secretariat did so the industry has already reacted.
I was horrified by the Derby ending. It should have been a great celebration for the best horse I've seen in 30 years, but believe me, Eight Bells, Barbaro and Ruffian are part of racing. "
