PHILADELPHIA 76ERS ROSTER (* PER = Player Efficiency Rating)
POS PLAYER HT YEAR AGE PTS REB AST PER*
G ALLEN IVERSON 6-0 2001 25 31.1 3.8 4.6 23.9
Comment: Just a remarkable season: was regular-season MVP and led undermanned Sixers team all the way to the Finals
G MAURICE CHEEKS 6-1 1986 29 15.4 2.9 9.2 17.9
Comment: Terrific floor leader; All-Star and 1st-team all-defensive in '86; efficient shooter as well, at 53.7% in '86
G HAL GREER 6-2 1964 27 23.3 6.1 4.7 17.7
Comment: 10-time All-Star was 2nd-team all-NBA every year between '63 and '69
G ANDREW TONEY 6-3 1983 25 19.7 2.8 4.5 20.8
Comment: Larry Bird once said: "Absolute best I've ever seen at shooting the ball at crucial times"
F JULIUS ERVING 6-6 1981 30 24.6 8.0 4.4 25.1
Comment: Imagine if he'd signed with the Bucks (who drafted him) instead of ABA: his teammate would've been Kareem; MVP in '81
F CHARLES BARKLEY 6-6 1988 24 28.6 12.0 3.2 27.6
Comment: Won MVP with Suns in '93, but before he started firing up all those reckless 3s, 58.7% shooting made him a deadly efficient player
F BILLY CUNNINGHAM 6-6 1970 26 26.1 13.6 4.3 21.0
Comment: "The Kangaroo Kid" can serve as player-coach: coached Sixers to '83 title ... and the lefty could score as well
F BOBBY JONES 6-9 1982 30 14.4 5.2 2.5 19.3
Comment: Made 1st-team all-defensive eight times; shot 56% from floor while making All-Star team in '82
C WILT CHAMBERLAIN 7-1 1967 30 24.1 24.2 7.8 26.5
Comment: Sure, averaged 50 per game in crazy '62 season for Philly Warriors, but won title in '67 with Sixers; weakness: 44% from the line
C/F DOLPH SCHAYES 6-7 1960 31 22.5 12.8 3.4 20.6
Comment: Hall of Famer was star of Syracuse Nats before franchise moved to Philly

SCOUTING REPORT: The Celtics and their nine Hall of Famers may be favorites, but Philly's versatility on offense should present problems for the C's. Cheeks and Iverson are much quicker than anybody in Boston's backcourt, but if Havlicek plays guard, then Philly has a matchup problem. Bobby Jones may be a key weapon on defense against either Bird or Havlicek. The key may be Iverson: Can he be contained?
