Two Words For You:
EIGHT.  BILLION.

Baseball can bask in the joy of another October with great TV ratings, but the NFL remains king.

The League signed a six-year, $8 billion contract extension with CBS and Fox that runs through 2011 -- $41.67 million per team per year. And that doesn't even include the Sunday/Monday night packages, which are still under negotiation.

The big catch is the NFL can move seven late-season games from Sunday to Monday night and also develop a late-season satellite or cable package of Thursday or Saturday games.

King of all sports?

Oh, did we mention a five-year extension through 2010 with DirecTV will pay nearly $22 million per team per year?

NL Cy Young
It's Roger Clemens vs. Randy Johnson, with apologies to Roy Oswalt and Ben Sheets, to be announced today. Rocket is going for his 7th Cy Young; the Unit is trying to match him at 6:

     Roger Randy

W-L 18-4 16-14

ERA 2.98 2.60

IP 214.1 245.2

H 169 177

BB 79 44

SO 218 290

Clemens, of course, had greater run support; Johnson was 13-2 when Arizona scored more than 2 runs. Johnson's 8.10 hits+walks per nine innings was the best in the NL since Greg Maddux in 1995. Johnson also had 31 more innings pitched.

On the other hand, Clemens pitched in a pennant race; Houston won his last nine starts. The vote: Clemens wins. The Quickie vote: The Big Unit. He would have won 20+ playing with Houston.

Wannstedt Out
But who wants the Dolphins job? No QB, no RB, no hope?

Steve Spurrier's name will undoubtedly top the rumor mill, but even he may not want this headache and who knows if the Dolphins want him.

NFL Injury Bug
This week's roll call is major:

*Chad Pennington, out 2-4 weeks
*Michael Strahan, out of the season
*Byron Leftwich, out 2 weeks
*Priest Holmes, uncertain for Sunday
*Bill Parcells, sore vocal chords

Los Angeles Angels?
Bud Selig has given Angels owner Arte Moreno the OK to change the team's name back to the Los Angeles Angels, which was the team's name before it became the California Angels, which was the team's name before it became the Anaheim Angels.

The city, of course, is a little ticked, considering they've cut the Angels some deals. The name "Anaheim" was removed from uniforms, schedules and advertisements last season.

Looks like the Angels are screwing the city. And why change the name under which you won a World Series? Bad move, Angels, bad move.

Sosa: Staying Put
"At this point, I'd bet on him staying with the Cubs," Sosa's agent told Peter Gammons.

Geez, no kidding. For some reason, the market for mediocre outfielders set to make $17 million isn't booming.
