Anna Kournikova:
Could we see an elusive tourney title for Ms. K this
weekend at the bottom-tier Cloister Cup? If nothing else, you have to see her new look -- Page 2 has the photo. (See "Q It Up," right)

The Lead Item
Two Words For You:
SCORING. MAVALANCHE.
Whatever new Mavericks consultant Paul Silas
did, keep doing it: He shows up and all of a sudden
the Mavs blow out the Kings. Dallas' 83 points
in the first half (NBA record) was ridiculous, and the
Kings were either looking way too far ahead or thought
Mavs-style defense was worth a try.
Fearless Nick Van Exel (36 pts in 30 min) is the Mavs'
answer to Sacto's Bobby Jackson (who suffered a
fractured cheekbone), but here is the series' new big question: What's up with C-Webb's knee, injured
last night. Between the two injuries, the formerly
super-deep Kings have lost some weight, troubling enough to make a
once "lock" of a series up for grabs.
Wild Do It Again
Thanks to the ultra-clutch Wild finishing off the Canucks for
their second straight rally from a 3-1 series deficit, the West finals (No. 6 Minny vs.
No. 7 Anaheim) is among the most unique "dog vs. dog"
matchups in recent history in any
sport, making the series far more compelling than if
it was same-old, same-old, like Detroit vs.
Colorado.
Pistons OT Win
No Chauncey Billups, no problem:
Emergency starter Chucky Atkins (23 pts) caught
whatever scoring bug Billups had, but the big story is
Gervin-esque Pistons rookie Tayshaun Prince, who has a
clothes-rack body, but close-out skills (20 pts, 7 in OT).

One Last MJ Scenario
If humiliated MJ and aggravated Wizards
part-owner Ted Leonsis really want to stick it to Abe
Pollin, Leonsis should go ahead and sell MJ back his
stake in the team, as originally planned. Then, they
just wait out the old man, as Leonsis has to anyway.
BCS' Fifth Wheel
Super-secret BCS cabal considering adding
fifth BCS bowl -- not as a title game, but to
increase exposure for those non-BCS teams always
whining in December. Won't work: BCS is about money;
extra bowl would just draft the biggest draw, not
necessarily Cinderella.

Michigan Banned
In laying down a one-year postseason ban and a
couple more of probation, the NCAA infractions czar
called the Fab Five era "a sham." The wins? Maybe. The
fashion contribution? Never.
"90210" Reunion
There has not been a more compelling candy-TV
