Marlins P Dontrelle Willis:
Unleashed a complete-game one-hitter on the Mets last night. (Keep reading ...)

The Lead Item
Two Words For You:
DONTRELLE.  MANIA.

Time to start "talkin' 'bout" this season's K-Rod: A 21-year-old lefty, Willis has all the qualities to be a sensation: He throws hard. He's excitable. And his motion is the pitching equivalent of Jim Furyk's golf swing.

Get him in the Midseason Classic: In his first major-league month, Willis is 6-1 (51 Ks/17 BBs), and if he doesn't get picked for the NL All-Stars, MLB is hopeless. Unless, of course the Marlins manage to screw him up before then, which is not out of the question.

Spurs Reloaded?
After exhausting the "get-Kidd" analysis yesterday, watch armchair-GM momentum to build now for the Spurs to spend their embarrassment of salary-cap riches this way: Make minor tweaks this off-season, hoarding space for one of 2004's huge prizes (Kobe, Garnett, McGrady).

Nets Imploded?
Pulling a critical card from the bottom of the House of Jersey: Assistant coach/head Xs-Os strategist Eddie Jordan is going somewhere to lead his own team, whether it's Washington, Philly or elsewhere. Byron Scott's training wheels are coming off.

NASCAR Title Sponsor
Always knew NASCAR was a bunch of cell-outs: Since its top addictive-product sponsor dropped out, NASCAR is reportedly replacing tobacco on Thursday with the real addiction for the 21st century: Goodbye, Winston Cup; hello, NASCAR by Nextel.

Can ya'll hear me now?

1 Ripping new Soldier Field: Real problem on-field product
2 No AnnaK at Wimbledon: Not like she was escaping 1st rd
3 Your chances with Kate Beckinsale: She got engaged

Wimbledon
Lleyton and Serena top the seedings, but the player to watch is the 5-seed on the men's side, Andy Roddick, the huge server who is due for a break-out Slam title.

QB Search
At the Dolphins QB camp this week, behind all the smiles and sweet talk between ineffective incumbent Jay Fiedler and reclamation project Brian Griese, there's got to be some 'Melrose'-style cattiness trapped in there somewhere. What team wants QBs who are that nice?

NBA Coach Watch
Will Mike Dunleavy coach the Clippers? Didn't he already whiff in L.A. once? The Hawks are a better fit.

As ACC Turns
ACC poach vote could happen Wednesday, Wash. Post reporting. That still leaves a full day for anti-expansion obstructionists to screw things up.

LeBron's NBA Debut
Circle your calendar: 8 p.m., Monday July 14 -- the Cavs start their summer-league season in Boston...and, theoretically, LeBron gets his first NBA taste, vs. the Celtics. (Think Paul Pierce will suit up?)

Notre Dame PG Chris Thomas
Reality check: Heading back to ND after realizing NBA didn't think as highly of his skills as he did.
