NFL training camps are beginning to open. Praise Roger Goodell!
Let's take a look at what each AFC team needs to work on between now and Week 1.
AFC East
Buffalo Bills
Camp To-Do: Add diversity to the offense
The Bills need to find more ways to score if they hope to compete in the AFC East. It's lucky, then, that they're playing a game in Toronto this year. Perhaps they can learn how to score some rouges.

Josh McCown should probably leave the chain saws to someone else, and concentrate on football.
Camp To-Do: Choose a starting quarterback
John Beck, Chad Henne and Josh McCown all have a shot at winning the starting job for the rebuilding Dolphins. But give the edge to McCown. Although both Beck and Henne have strong arms, McCown's arm is so strong it can withstand chain-saw attacks.
New England Patriots
Camp To-Do: Stay focused
The Patriots have the talent and the schedule to duplicate last season's success and go to the Super Bowl, but can they maintain the same level of dedication and focus in light of such a disappointing Super Bowl loss? If Tom Brady's offseason is any indication, the answer is yes. Here he is vacationing on Ibiza with Gisele Bundchen. And here he is surfing with her in Costa Rica. And here he is with her in Santa Monica. And here they are at a fashion ball at The Met in New York. If that's not leadership, I don't know what is. Clearly Brady martyred himself for his teammates by spending the offseason jet-setting around the world being photographed with his supermodel girlfriend so all of his teammates could stay home and work on football without distraction. The intensity of his tan betrays the intensity of his desire.
New York Jets
Camp To-Do: Build continuity on offense
The addition of Alan Faneca and Damien Woody to the offensive line should solidify that porous unit and allow the Jets' quarterbacks to stay upright. Unfortunately, many Jets fans actually quite enjoyed seeing Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens get smashed to the turf over and over again last year. Now what will satisfy their bloodlust? The women of Gate D fear the answer.
AFC North
Baltimore Ravens
Camp To-Do: Find a starting quarterback
The Ravens traded up in the draft to select Joe Flacco out of Delaware with the 18th overall pick. They obviously like him. But is he ready to bridge the gap from the years of horrid quarterback play in Baltimore to a better future? I say yes. I mean, just look at the guy. Those eyebrows prove he has no problem bridging gaps.

What does Chad Johnson have up his sleeve for this season? We'll see.
Camp To-Do: Build team chemistry
Chris Henry, Odell Thurman and others are gone, but Chad Johnson remains. Will his ego and attitude tear the team apart? And even if not, will his recent ankle surgery allow him to play at 100 percent? And most important, will it allow him to dance at 100 percent? The Bengals and Broadway want to know.
Cleveland Browns
Camp To-Do: Stay patient
Some experts are predicting that the Browns will explode as a legitimate contender this year. But that's a bit foolish. Cleveland has a young roster and a difficult schedule. The Browns must keep their eye on the future and work on their three biggest problems: (1) holes in the defensive backfield, (2) running back depth and (3) gay dating Web sites using shirtless photos of their backup quarterback without permission.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Camp To-Do: Improve the offensive line and the pass rush
This may be a bit unorthodox, but maybe the Steelers should just swap their offensive and defensive lines. Last year it seemed they had all of the guys who were good at protecting the quarterback on defense.
AFC South
Houston Texans
Camp To-Do: Improve the pass rush
Mario Williams had 14 sacks last season, but opposing teams are able to key on him because of the lack of talent around him. So it looks like we have yet another reason Houston should have drafted Reggie Bush instead of Williams. Not only would they have no one for opposing teams to key on, but also their running game would produce an extra 500 or so yards every year.

Unheralded backup QB Jim Sorgi will get lots of attention at Colts camp this year.
Camp To-Do: Get Peyton Manning healthy
The Colts have other issues to deal with, of course, but making sure Manning gets back on the field as soon as possible is paramount for them. And for us. The longer he is away from football, the more commercials he can film. (He already was persuaded to tongue a cookie on national television. I fear what he could be persuaded to do under the influence of powerful painkillers.)
Jacksonville Jaguars
Camp To-Do: Work with what they have
Jacksonville was just a piece or two away from being a Super Bowl team last season. Despite that, management didn't spend much money in the offseason to improve the roster. Although, to be fair, maybe there's a chance Matt Jones had its credit card.
Tennessee Titans
Camp To-Do: Get Vince Young back on track
After a promising rookie season, Vince Young struggled mightily in 2007. Enter new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, who helped develop Steve McNair during an earlier stint in Tennessee. Heimerdinger will look to strip Young down, then build him back up. The good news for the Titans is that Part 1 of that plan already has been accomplished.
AFC West
Denver Broncos
Camp To-Do: Solidify the kicking game
Jason Elam is gone after kicking for the Broncos for the past 15 years. The punting job is up for grabs, too, but that is less worrisome -- Mike Shanahan's system churns out 1,000-yard punters year after year after year.
Kansas City Chiefs
Camp To-Do: Get the rookies ready
Kansas City had 12 picks in April's seven-round draft and hopes all of them can contribute to the team in some way this year. That's why the team's veterans likely will spend more time coaching the rookies and less time hazing them. The hazing will be limited to playing for the 2008 Kansas City Chiefs.

How secure can Lane Kiffin feel about his current coaching job?
Camp To-Do: Establish Lane Kiffin's leadership
I suppose this is more a goal for Lane Kiffin than anyone else, but the rumor is that Al Davis could fire him any day. Or maybe Al Davis will sign him to an extension. Or maybe Al Davis will take him shopping for a pair of the finest lady glasses an NFL owner's money can buy. Or maybe Al Davis will say that aliens use waffle makers to read our minds. There's really no telling.
San Diego Chargers
Camp To-Do: Find a backup running back
LaDainian Tomlinson is coming off an injury, and Michael Turner is gone. Darren Sproles and Jacob Hester will battle for the backup job and the right to be the last running back selected in your fantasy draft.
