Early on, they had no answer for him. Isiah Thomas has his way with Rollie Massimino's band of underdogs. At one point he scores 11 points in just over a minute, stealing the ball four times in a row. But the Hoosiers do not pull away, even though Bellamy and McGinnis can't be stopped and backup Quinn Buckner runs Bobby Knight's halfcourt set offense to perfection. Indiana never leads by more than four. With 5:44 left, Scott May turns his ankle on Paul Arizin's foot and is carried off the floor by redshirts Kent Benson and Mike Woodson. May does not return. You could see the heads of all the Hoosier players drop. They're done. And although Isiah finishes with 47 points, it's not enough to overcome the Wildcats' 89 percent shooting from the floor in the second half. It becomes the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history. Final score: Villanova 90, Indiana 86

A vendor's flat of Bud Light is mysteriously spilled on the wires that power the shot clock. It's a first-round game in Boise; there's a brightly painted playing surface for your viewing pleasure but no backup clock to be had. Massimino seizes the moment and has his boys four-cornering from the get. Ed Pinckney keeps flashing to the free-throw line and screaming for the ball, but the guards have been instructed to ignore him; this ain't '85. There are 38-plus minutes left in the game, but Chris Ford has his right index finger in the air, calling out, "One shot. One shot!" At first, the Hoosiers are glad to go old-school, but eventually Isiah, frustrated, declares for the draft and walks out. Knight is now six shades of red, but 'Nova won't budge. Finally, and we do mean finally, the Cats run a play for Paul Arizin; think Picket Fence in "Hoosiers." He comes around the pick and looks open, but he's no match for George McGinnis who, you know, jumps and stuff. McGinnis' not-in-my-house block flies to midcourt, where Steve Alford takes it in stride and goes the other way for a spot-up 3. Ball game. Final score: Indiana 3, Villanova 0
