The game is tight for 30 minutes, but only because it takes a while for KU to work out the kinks: Pierce would like to handle the ball a bit more; LaFrentz hasn't figured out his job is to rebound and cheerlead; and so on. The Jayhawks pick it up and pull away in the second half when Larry Brown decides "the right way" means less Raef and more Hinrich. He and Jo Jo penetrate and dish like servers working the swing shift at Applebee's on all-you-can-eat Riblet night, and The Dipper and Mr. Manning are wearing bibs, shooting a combined 20 for 22 in the last 12 minutes. "It's way too early to start talking about the Final Four," Manning says in a postgame interview. "It most certainly is not," Wilt stops to say as he's walking toward the showers.
