Eric Neel predicts ...
Everyone expects the Bruins to go Twin Towers with Alcindor and Walton, but Wooden sees it as more of a one-two punch thing. They run relentlessly off Walton's outlets in the one set. Marquette finds itself in trouble when Jim Chones pulls a hammy eight minutes into the game and writhes on the floor until Jerome Whitehead comes down out of the stands and carries him to the locker room.

When "Lewis" is on the floor, the Bruins work the high-post, back-cut halfcourt thing in set two. Marques Johnson, who carried the 1975 UCLA team with no big man at all, is having so much fun he starts hugging Cap the way Magic did that first night against the Clippers in 1980. In a related incident, Al Maguire's still-talking head spins clean off his shoulders, and the Bruins march on.
Final score: UCLA 110, Marquette 74

Scoop Jackson predicts ...
Maurice Lucas swore he'd never be intimidated by anyone. But this was different. From the time he walked on to the floor for the tip of the game and looked at the 7-2, 6-11 front line of Alcindor and Walton he froze. Down by 22 at halftime, the Warriors, fresh in their light (not powder) blue rounded-out bottom, untucked jerseys, got the Knute Rockne from coach McGuire before they came back out on the floor.

The three-guard assault of Lee (31 points), Wade (28 points) and Rivers (14 assists) -- and Bo Ellis (16 points off the bench) -- has the Bruins rattled for 15 minutes in the second half. The lead gets as close as five. But no one is able to stop UCLA's Miller from busting the zone Marquette played trying to contain Alcindor and Walton.
Final score: UCLA 92, Marquette 82
