Well, it's certainly true in my house. I have three daughters, two in college. Like me back then, they are not pessimistic about their future, but they have no confidence in their government or their institutions.
I try to tell them that it's OK, that -- at some point -- nearly every generation of American youth has felt disinherited. The difference is, we had the Beatles. We had a road map, a way out.
In his last hit song with the Beatles, Lennon wrote: "One thing I can tell you is you got to be free."
Let's not just sing that. Let's pass it down to our kids.
