What's wrong with a little digital nipping and tucking?
|The real Tony Parker||NBA Live 09 Tony Parker|
A quick glance and it's obvious: The cover of EA Sports' just-released "NBA Live 09" video game features San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker.
Er, make that Parker's head.
As for the pumped-up guns and ripped physique that make up the rest of the cover photo? It could be Parker's actual body provided the lithe, ultraquick Frenchman spent his offseason training with Victor Conte.
Don't get us wrong: Parker is a world-class athlete, as physically fit as they come. But in real life, he hardly looks like Barry Bonds, circa 2001. Even Spurs teammate Ime Udoka says so. Which means someone at EA Sports appears to have more than a passing familiarity with photo-editing software.
Anyway, why stop there?
Look, if video game covers are going down the enhanced, wish-fulfillment path of movie star head shots and Playboy centerfolds -- the way of Andy Roddick's suspiciously swollen Men's Fitness cover -- then Parker shouldn't have all the idealized self-image fun. Not when other sports figures could benefit from a bit of digital nipping and tucking:
