The final table of Event 21 was set. Erick Lindgren, one of the game's most dominant players, was ready to get the monkey off his back and win his first bracelet. Daniel Negreanu was looking for validation, proving to everyone he can beat another huge field and grab his fourth bracelet.

Don Baruch had never cashed in a major tournament, but he outlasted both Negreanu (third place) and Lindgren (eighth) to claim the $1,500 no-limit hold 'em shootout and a $264,107 payday Thursday. Baruch, a 42-year-old owner of an investment and management services company from Tampa, Fla., learned the game from his father and had been playing since childhood, but started to play more seriously three years ago.

The shootout event had the largest field for a tournament of its type with 900 players. Players had to win two rounds of single-table tournaments to make it to the final table.

Other notable finishers include Fred Goldberg (ninth), Amnon Filippi (10th), and Dewey Tomko (12th).
