Young wins $1,500 no-limit hold 'em shootout

The second shootout of the 2008 WSOP resulted in little sleep but a win for aspiring poker professional Jason Young. Young, who claimed to be on one hour's sleep heading into the final table, recently left his job at the Parks and Recreation department to play poker full time.

There were three rounds of this shootout tournament. To advance to each subsequent round of a shootout, players need to defeat their tables. All those that made it to the second round, 100 players, made the money in this event.

IMPDI for the WSOPJason Young outlasted a field of 1,000 players to win his first bracelet.

The 26-year-old from Suffern, N.Y., earned $329,872 for first place, just a little bit more than his previous job.

"When I worked as a recreation coordinator, I made $35,000 a year," Young said. "Now, I just made 10 years of my former salary in just two days!"

Not bad for a WSOP rookie, but it wasn't an easy ride.

Mike Schwartz, a 58-year-old Russian-born business executive, was down nearly 40-to-1 in chips at one point in heads-up play. Schwartz then battled back to where Young only held a 7-to-3 chip lead and both players were all-in. Schwartz held 4-4 against Young's A-J. After a clean flop for Schwartz, Young hit an ace on the turn to take the lead and win the bracelet.

Other notable finishers include John Strzemp III (third), Mark Gregorich (33rd) and Thor Hansen (57th).
