Minieri wins bracelet in shorthanded event

The Italian 23-year-old professional poker player joins fellow countryman Max Pescatori in celebrating Italy's rise in poker's success. While Max Pescatori won his second bracelet a few days ago, Minieri can celebrate his first bracelet as he defeated a field of 1,012 in Event 31, the shorthanded $2,500 no-limit hold 'em event.
In what was a very entertaining final table on ESPN360, Minieri and his counterparts traded bad beats back and forth, including a hand where his 4-3 overcame his opponent's pocket queens. In the end, it was Minieri's queens that held up against Seth Fischer's K-10 to give him the bracelet. This was Mineiri's fourth cash at the WSOP, who has cashed in the last two main events. During the main event last year, Minieiri at one point held the chip lead, but faltered and finished in 96th place.
Before his emergence at the 2007 WSOP main event, Minieri was best known for his purchase in 2006 of a brand new Porsche Cayman S using only the frequent player points he accumulated on PokerStars. Minieri has also had great success in Europe including making three final tables at the Capionato Italiano di Poker (Italian Poker Championship). He finished third in the EPT Event in San Remo in April and has lifetime earnings of just under a million dollars.
Other notable finishers include Kevin Song (fourth), Scotty Nguyen (seventh) and Bill Chen (19th).
