Redemption earned for Dean Hamrick
If we take a trip down memory lane, you might remember Dean Hamrick's unfortunate exit from the 2008 WSOP main event. With the first November Nine being determined with the elimination of one more player, everything fell apart for Hamrick. Craig Marquis was the beneficiary of Hamrick's chips and would move on to November. Hamrick on the other hand became the ultimate bubble boy, eliminated in 10th place.

"My time was up and I had to go," Hamrick stated to Bernard Lee in November of '08. "It's just a game. Even though losing in a poker tournament stinks, I still made lots of money [$591,869, to be exact]. In the end, it will not define me. I am 25 years old, and I still have plenty of more poker to play in the future."
Clearly, Hamrick knew he had the poker skills to reach a WSOP final table once again and claimed ultimate redemption in Event 42, $1,500 no-limit hold 'em, when he outlasted a field of 2,521 to win his first WSOP bracelet. It was a moment well deserved and one he'll never forget.
"If I would not have had that experience then, I would not have won this event today," said Hamrick. "It shows that you can never give up. You have to stay patient. You have to pick the spots, and you can't just throw it all away because it is very rare to make a final table and it might not come again. You realize how important this is, so you really have to try and concentrate and just stay in the moment and not let any of the other distractions get to you."
Despite the conclusion of the tournament coming at 9:30 a.m. ET, his friends stuck by him to make sure the bracelet would be placed around his wrist.
"It's every poker player's dream," he said of winning. "When I started watching poker in the move Rounders, it's all you think about. Fortunately for me, I have a ton of friends and some of them have won bracelets. It feels really, really good to join the gold bracelet club."
The 27-year-old from East Lansing, MI, made a final table in 2009, only to fall short in fifth. It looked like he might not win this event either, but when he eliminated 61-year-old math teacher Tom O'Neal, it was finally time to celebrate. There was no early, unfortunate, exit this time. The tournament was his, as was a nice payday of $604,222. He now has eight WSOP cashes and career WSOP earnings of $1,366,534.
Other notable finishers from Event 42 include Humberto Brenes (16th), Bernard Lee (21st) and Kevin Schaffel (26th).
