Michael Linn earned one of the highest first-place prizes of the 2010 World Series of Poker, $609,493, with his victory in Event 49, the $1,500 no-limit hold 'em event. The 22-year-old student at Cal Polytechnic followed in the footsteps of his uncle Barry Greenstein and made his way to WSOP gold. Linn started to play poker during his freshman year at school and began to take it a little more seriously as he reached the age of 21. Despite getting more and more into the game, Linn didn't know that the famous poker player Barry Greenstein was the uncle he always knew. Even when he found out and reached out to his uncle, Greenstein said that he would not provide him with any funding or poker advice until he finished school.

"I always knew my uncle was a gambler," said Linn. "But I had no idea he was a very good poker player. Six months into me taking poker seriously, I realized he had a lot to do with the game. To be honest, his deal with me is that he will not mentor me or coach me in any way until I graduate from college. But now that I think about it, when I graduate from college I should teach him!"

Greenstein was at the final table as Linn claimed the bracelet. Linn may be taking back a significant amount of money back with him as he heads back to school to complete his coursework and then evaluate his choices at that point.

"I feel like the experience of being in college is far more important, especially for someone in my situation," he said. "It's far more important than the degree. The piece of paper is not really going to help me that much, but the people I meet and the growth you have are far more important than shutting yourself away in another world with a computer."

This finish marked Linn's third cash at the WSOP, with his previous best finish a 191st-place result in the 2009 WSOP main event. He eliminated Taylor Larkin for the title. Larkin made his first WSOP cash and earned $378,905 for the performance. Mihai Manole was third, the highest finish ever for a Romanian in WSOP history.

Entering the final table, the attention was on the most experienced player at the table, John Myung. The professional poker player hasn't made a final table since 2005 and would exit early in ninth place. He now has over $2 million in career tournament earnings.

Other notable finishers from Event 49 included Roland de Wolfe (60th), Mark Gregorich (64th) and Allen Kessler (191st). This was Kessler's eighth cash of the Series and the 19th of his career.
