China ends Games with first win
PROVO, Utah -- Captain Hongmei Liu scored just 1:39 into
overtime to lift China to a 2-1 victory over Kazakstan, earning
seventh place in the women's tournament.
China took an early 1-0 lead, only to see Kazakstan's Nadezhda
Losyeva tie the game with just over two minutes to play.
Chinese goaltender Hong Guo, in her final Olympic appearance,
kept her team in the game by shutting down Kazakstan with two of
her teammates in the penalty box after the Losyeva goal.
It was the first win in Salt Lake City for China, which finished
1-3-1. Kazakstan, in its first Olympic women's hockey appearance,
failed to win a game.
