There is precedent for Luis Gonzalez's gum making it to the aucion block. In the oddball memorabilia category, Gonzo's gum is equaled by Tom Seaver's toothpick and Ty Cobb's false teeth.
In August 1992, someone paid $440 for a toothpick found in the pocket of Seaver's Mets jacket -- worn from 1967 through 1969. In 1999, another collector shelled out $8,000 for Cobb's old choppers.
