What was Urban Outfitters thinking?
Page 2 staff
What the heck was the company Urban Outfitters thinking when it began to sell a board game called "Ghettopoly" that features "playas" acting like pimps and game cards that read, "You got yo whole neighborhood addicted to crack? Collect $50"? (Black leaders and clergymen have called for a boycott of Urban Outfitters.)
They were going to give a discount to pimps and hos, but that would have been offensive.
A. "This is the last time we let John Rocker, Rush Limbaugh and Al Campanis design a board game for us."
B. "We've also combined the hotels and houses to come up with 'ho houses'."
C. "We debated a long time before we put it on the market. Why? Because given the street value of crack, we couldn't decide if you should get more than $50 for hooking your whole neighborhood."
D. "The game pieces are basically the same as Monopoly, except the car is now a low-rider '64 Impala, and the hat is made of purple velvet and features a matching feather."
E. "How do you like our new marketing slogan? 'Fun for the whole illegitimate family!'"
F. "Wait 'til you see our next game! It's called 'ReservationOpoly,' and it comes complete with Chance cards that read, 'You just traded Park Place for a handful of shiny beads. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Collect a smallpox-infested blanket'."
