CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dell Curry was hired as the director of
basketball relations for the expansion Charlotte Bobcats on
Thursday.
It's the perfect role for Curry, an original member of the
Charlotte Hornets who maintained a home in the area long after his
playing days were over.
Curry will be part of the Bobcats' community relations, public
relations, sales and marketing efforts and be an adviser and scout
on the team's basketball operations staff.
"Dell is a one-of-a-kind person and he's as highly regarded off
the court as he was on the court," said Bobcats executive vice
president Ed Tapscott. "From fans and those he has helped in the
community to his peers on the court and members of the business
community, Dell connects at every level."
Curry, a highly visible member of the community, began his new
job immediately as a guest reader Thursday at the Salvation Army
Women and Childrens Shelter.
Curry was the first-ever pick by the Hornets in the 1988
expansion draft, playing 10 seasons in Charlotte.
He established the Dell Curry Foundation in Charlotte in 1998 to
offer skill-based programs and group living arrangements to youth
and young adults in need of guidance and direction. The foundation
has opened five reading and learning centers around the city.
