On the list because she completed the "Serena Slam" in 2003, winning the four majors in a row -- the 2002 French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open, and the 2003 Australian Open. So powerful and dominant that in early April, after an eight-month layoff due to injury, she won the Nasdaq 100 in lopsided fashion.
On the list because she broke the all-time international scoring record, for men and women with her 108th career goal -- in 1999. At 32, she's still near the top of her game after more than a decade in the limelight, finishing fourth in AP voting for 2003 AP Female Athlete of the Year, and voted FIFA Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002.
