Napolitan homer lifts Shockers

Associated Press

WICHITA, Kan. -- Phil Napolitan hit a three-run homer as Wichita State rallied from a five-run deficit Tuesday to beat Oklahoma 8-7.

Danny Jackson retired the final three batters for the Shockers, who trailed 5-0 after the top of the first but allowed the tying run to reach second base with no outs in the top of the ninth.

With runners on second and third and Wichita State leading 8-6, Jackson came in and allowed Ole Sheldon's sacrifice fly before retiring the final two batters to earn his first save.

Napolitan brought the Shockers within 5-4 with his home run in the bottom of the second and Logan Sorensen scored to tie the game after consecutive Oklahoma errors.

After the Sooners regained the lead in the top of the fourth, Sorensen tied it again with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.

Joe Muich drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth.

The Shockers scored all of their runs with two outs.

Reliever Adam Bengston (1-1) picked up the win for Wichita State.

Casey Brown (5-3) gave up two runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief to take the loss.
