USC guard Gemelos suffers another season-ending knee injury

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Highly regarded Southern California guard Jacki Gemelos has suffered another season-ending knee injury, depriving one of the country's top recruits coming out of high school of a third straight season with the Trojans.

Gemelos injured her left knee during a workout Monday, suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear. Previously, she tore the ACL in her right knee twice.

Gemelos was considered the nation's No. 1 player coming out of high school as a senior at St. Mary's High School in Stockton, Calif. She suffered her first knee injury in her final high school game with St. Mary's, sidelining her for her first year at USC. Then, she tore the same ligament again before last season.

Gemelos and redshirt freshman Stefanie Gilbreath, who has also suffered three torn knee ligaments, are both scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming weeks. Gilbreath also suffered two torn ligaments before entering USC and re-injured the same knee a few weeks ago.
