Tigers were interested in Angels' Napoli

The Tigers inquired into the availability of the Angels' Mike Napoli before filling their catching void with a trade for Texas's Gerald Laird, but found the price for Napoli was too high.

Detroit general manager David Dombrowski said the team also took a look at free agent Jason Varitek, but decided to pass on Varitek once the Red Sox offered him salary arbitration and free-agent compensation became an issue.
