Glavine hopes to stay in Atlanta Tom Glavine, who wasn't expected to begin throwing until Dec. 15, is ahead of schedule in his recovery from surgical repairs to his left elbow and shoulder. Agent Gregg Clifton said Glavine recently entered the second stage of his throwing program and progressed from 45 to 60 feet.
In contrast to John Smoltz, who has expressed an open-mindedness about pitching somewhere besides Atlanta in 2009, Glavine's main focus is on coming back to the Braves. It's more than likely Atlanta or nowhere.
"If for some reason Atlanta said they didn't want him, I think he still wants to play,'' Clifton said. "But his heart is there.''
