Ohio star impressed with Michigan State
Defensive lineman Jibreel Black (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) was in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday for the Michigan State Spartans' spring game.
"It went real good," Black said. "They have some real nice facilities. I liked the crowd there."
The weekend of April 18, Black was in Bloomington, Ind., and met up with his brother Larry Black.
"I went up to Indiana's spring game to watch my brother play," Jibreel Black said. "He's a 'redshirt' freshman defensive tackle."
Jibreel Black has approximately 20 scholarship offers. Included on his list are Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, West Virginia, Cincinnati, South Carolina, North Carolina State and Kentucky.
"Ohio State is coming to my school on Friday," Black said. "Who knows what might happen with that? An offer from Ohio State would be nice."
The 6-foot-2 and 260-pound black made 73 tackles including seven sacks during his junior season. He is one of the Top 20 prospects in the Buckeye State.
Black said he is considering just about all of the schools he has offers from as well as Ohio State.
"I don't have any favorites," he said. "I haven't seen enough schools yet."
Jones also attends Green-White game
Jibreel Black was not the only prospect to attend the Michigan State spring game on Saturday with a scholarship offer in hand from the Spartans.
Wide receiver Tony Jones (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) is one of the top in-state prospects the Spartans are pursuing and he too was in East Lansing on Saturday.
The 6-foot-1 and 185-pound Jones has scholarship offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and some others.
Linebacker Jewone Snow (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) also took in Michigan State's spring game. Snow is the nephew of former Michigan State stars Percy and Eric Snow. Percy played football for the Spartans while Eric was a basketball standout at MSU.
Jewone Snow is looking at Michigan State, Illinois, Alabama, Kansas, Cincinnati, Duke, West Virginia and a few others.
Ohioan adds Michigan offer
Tight end Alex Welch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) has added a scholarship offer from Michigan. Welch added an offer from Florida State in mid-April and in addition to those two also has offers from Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Boston College, Maryland and North Carolina State.
The 6-foot-5 and 225-pound Welch caught 32 passes for over 400 yards and four touchdowns during his junior season.
