of the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League.
The Calgary Flames said Tuesday they reached an agreement with
Saint John Pro Sports Inc. to buy its 50 percent interest in the
AHL club. The Saint John owners said they were not making enough
money.
This marked the 10th year in the AHL for the Saint John Flames,
who are Calgary's top affiliate. In 2001, Saint John won the league
championship.
Before the agreement, it had been determined the team would not
play in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 2003-04. Calgary president
and chief executive Ken King said he is considering several options
for next season.

placing 15 to 16 players in Springfield.
"The fact that we are extending our affiliation with
Springfield speaks volumes about our belief in the ownership, the
management and the fans of the Falcons," Coyotes general manager
Michael Barnett said. "We feel very fortunate that our future NHL
players will experience the positives of fine-tuning their skills
in a hockey community."
Barnett said he believes the Falcons will benefit from a sole
affiliation, as opposed to sharing personnel with another NHL club,
through more uniform management and player movement.
