BOSTON -- Will we see Alex Ovechkin outdoors next year?
Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis certainly hopes so.
"Yes! We are very interested in playing in a Winter Classic," Leonsis wrote ESPN.com in an e-mail Friday.
The Caps were initially in the discussion to be here at Fenway to play the Bruins, but the Flyers entered the picture, it's believed, because they were the bigger TV market draw.
Still, multiple league sources confirmed to ESPN.com this week that having the Caps involved next year is definitely a possibility. Tarik El-Bashir of The Washington Post also reported Friday that the Caps could be involved in 2011.
For the first time, next year's Winter Classic will be decided via an official bidding process. NHL teams have until the end of February to submit their bids.
One rumored matchup has the Caps and Penguins playing in Pittsburgh, the dream Ovechkin-Sidney Crosby matchup the league would drool over.
